I’d Like to Get Beginner Guitar Lessons for the Kids, What Should I Expect?
To learn guitar, kids will have to improve their finger dexterity, flexibility, and build calluses on their finger tips. While that can be painful, our guitar teachers take special care to ensure guitar lessons for children work on these skills gradually. Plan to be firm about regular practice to make sure your kids see results so they do not get discouraged with their lessons. Many of our students start as early as age 5 or 6 and share a 1 hour lesson weekly with a sibling, friend or family member. By age 10, kids guitar lessons should be at least 45 minutes in duration to ensure your child is making solid progress and getting the most value for your money.
Equipment for Kids Guitar Lessons: What to Buy
For kids 12 and under, it’s best to learn guitar with a 3/4 sized acoustic guitar. We recommend the Taylor BT1 & BT2 models. For teens taking beginner guitar lessons, we recommend the Fender Starcaster, Yamaha FG730S, or for the discerning guitarist, the affordable Taylor 110 Dreadnought acoustic guitar. You'll also need guitar strings, picks, a capo and battery operated metronome with a 440 pitch for tuning. To make it easy, we’ve added these items to our online store operated by Amazon.com. While discount stores have cheap guitars, the instruments do not hold their tuning, so even if you play correctly, it will sound wrong. This is incredibly frustrating for a beginner guitar student.
