How often do students take lessons?

Students have the opportunity to pick a day and a time that fits their schedule and availability best. Most students choose to take a weekly lesson.

How do MTN instructors differ from others?

Since inception, MTN has maintained excellence and accountability in a largely unregulated field. Finding instructors that possess the proper education, experience and knowhow is a skill that MTN has refined over a decade of experience. MTN instructors must have a track record of successful teaching experience and have that special something that communicates trust and commitment to us before we consider them for our team. MTN instructors pass a 5 point quality assurance process, including a thorough background check.  Patience, commitment, dedication to purpose and exceptional teaching ability separates MTN instructors from the rest.

Where are music lessons taught?

MTN specializes in private in-home lesson services. We believe that our service solves a multitude of problems for busy families and working professionals that appreciate the luxury of having a teacher travel to their home.  An additional benefit of in-home lessons is that students practice more frequently - yielding better results from lessons. The instrument remains set up and it becomes convenient to follow a lesson with additional practice.

How may I pay for lessons?

We have two plans: Pay as you Go & Prepaid (8 or 16 week).  With the Pay as you Go Plan, you will be billed at the end of the month for the lessons taken that month. You may cancel a lesson with 24+ hours notice with no penalty.  With the Prepaid Plans (8 or 16 week), you will be billed in advance and get to take advantage of significant pricing discounts.  Visa, MasterCard, American Express and eCheck are all accepted forms of payment.  For both plans, we securely maintain your method of payment on account and all billing is done automatically with emailed receipts.

What is MTN's cancellation policy?

If you are on a Pay as you Go Plan, simply provide 24 hours notice and cancellation of a single lesson or recurring lessons is welcome.  If you are on a Prepaid Plan, your cancellation may be made up based on your instructor's availability.  If a make-up lesson is not possible, the cancelled lesson is forfeited.

Which forms of payment does MTN accept?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and eCheck.

Do I need to have my own instrument in order to take lessons?

Yes. Our instructors do not supply instruments or accessories.   Please see our online store for our recommended musical instruments sheet music and accessories.

What is MTN's reschedule policy?

Lessons may be rescheduled depending on your Instructor's availability.

What is the minimum age I should start my child in music lessons?

This will vary by child based largely on his or her attention span and the instrument they wish to learn. Many children start piano and voice as early as five years old, however we have had success with some four-year-olds as well. Instruments such as guitar that require finger and hand strength are better suited for children ages 5 and up. If the child is not sharing a lesson with another student, be sure they can remain engaged for a 45 minute lesson.

Can I change my lesson day or time?

Yes. We work hard to be highly flexible to suit your needs. Just call the office at 1-800-880-7280 and we will work to accommodate any changes in schedule.

Does MTN offer volume discounts?

Yes.  Please call for details, 1-800-880-7280.

How often should my child practice?

As a rule of thumb, a student should practice their instrument at least three times a week for 15-30 minutes. More often than once a day and for shorter durations (10 minutes) is even more ideal for great results. The more often a student practices the faster they will become proficient and get the most out of their lessons. Some students measure practice time in terms of playing a song three times, scales 10 times, or in some other qualitative way to remain engaged. It is important to note, we do not recommend practicing through the pain for instruments that require physical dexterity. It is better to let the body heal for a day in between practice sessions when building the core muscles for the first time. For parents, using the word play instead of practice has also been an effective method to encourage kids to invest time in their instrument.

Does MTN supply books and materials?

Materials are available for purchase through our online store for great deals on sheet music.  Our store has the same pricing available on Amazon.com.

Are there any other ways to earn rewards?

Yes. We really appreciate your referrals. For every family you send to MTN that purchases a lesson and references your name, we will automatically provide you a free lesson.  See more for details.

Does MTN offer 30 minute lessons?

The minimum scheduled amount of time must be 45 minutes or greater for any single household and 30 minutes minimum for any student. You are welcome to also split one hour between two students when applicable. In our experience, students derive meaningful benefit from the extra time that 45 minutes provides. It enables an instructor to review old topics, demonstrate new topics and construct an upcoming practice plan without sacrificing the student’s understanding. We believe this saves time and money in the long run by increasing the student’s results.
